Svalbard by kayak

The kayak expedition follows the northern coast of the Isfjorden fjord, which cuts through the scenic Spitsbergen island. The summer in Svalbard is bright, but the climate is cool even in summer, and the nights can be on the freezing side.Expedition lasts ten days, during which we spend the nights in two-person tents. Isfjorden is the second longest fjord in Spitsbergen. It starts on the west coast of the island of Spitsbergen, and its branches extend far into the northeastern parts of the island. The northern coast of the fjord, where we paddle, is part of the "Nordre Isfjorden" national park, where you can find untouched coastline. Our expedition starts at the western end of the Isfjorden fjord at the tip of the Daudmannsodden promontory. The expedition team, kayaks and equipment are transferred from town of Longyearbyen  to our starting point by boat transport. We start paddling along the northern coast of the fjord, heading northeast. Surrounded by mountains, nesting cliffs of birds, and the arctic vegetation.

We pass two large glaciers descending into the fjord (Wahlenbergbree and Sveabree glaciers). Our expedition ends near Kapp Thordsen cape.

Our local guide is Calle Schönning, Arctic Nature Guide (UNIS, Svalbard), who has lived in Svalbard for nine years. He has guided numerous kayaking, skiing and hiking trips around the Arctic.
