Would you like to learn how to kayak safely and confidently at sea?
This two-evening course introduces you to the essential skills of sea kayaking, including paddling technique, safety, and boat control. It is designed for beginners who want to develop the skills and confidence needed to become independent and responsible sea kayakers.
During the course, we will cover the key skills and techniques included in the EPP 1 (European Paddle Pass) level and the SuMe Kayaker course.
Course Content
-
Paddling Technique
-
Good paddling technique is built on three fundamental elements:
-
Sitting position – maintaining a balanced and efficient posture.
-
Connection with the kayak – learning to control the kayak through contact with your feet, knees, and hips.
-
Feel for the paddle and water – developing an effective paddle stroke and understanding how the paddle interacts with the water.
-
When these elements come together, you gain better control of your kayak and learn to use torso rotation and efficient paddle strokes. We will practise these skills on the water and explore how to apply them in different conditions.
